sketchbook

Some artists prefer to work in their sketchbooks. I am not one of them. Especially fancy sketchbooks. I much prefer a “sketch drawer” where I can place only the good stuff for safe keeping and throw out the rest in the recycling. However, while cleaning house I discovered a hand bound sketch book with water color paper that my sister gave to me after her trip to Italy 8 years ago. After wiping the dust away and setting it on my light table, I have come up with every excuse not to murk it up with art for three months, but not today.

Below are the first two water color sketches of vintage photos of couples. The couples look as if they have had it pretty rough in the photos, which for some reason cracks me up enough to paint a portrait of the portrait. Here goes nothing…
